Pornography In The Church

The Baptist Press recently released an article about pornography in the church.

Click here to read it (at the end of the article is a link to another, older article that discusses help for women who’s husbands struggle with porn).

While reading the statistics written in that article, keep in mind that many of them are even higher in our experience (“our” referring to XXXChurch). Why? Probably because men feel a bit more “safe” to admit their problems when dealing with the X3 ministry, as they know we’re not going to judge them and ask them to resign their positions.

Pornography is a problem in the church. It’s great to see that churches are FINALLY waking up and talking about it. That this is why we gotta keep doing what we’re doing.

That is why I gotta keep blogging and I gotta keep speaking in front of people and I gotta keep trying to remove the fantasy of porn, replacing it with the realities of porn.

Whether I like it or not, this is what I’ve been called to do. This is the battle I’ve got to fight within myself. This is the battle I have to help other men and women fight.

  1. While I’m thrilled that the church is finally starting to deal with this huge elephant in the room, I’m still bothered by the fact that yet again, women who struggle with it are ignored. The other article deals with the WIVES of men who fall, which once again implies that only men struggle with it. The shame that we women who are caught up in porn addiction feel is sometimes unbearable, and the church only makes it worse. This is not a socially acceptable thing to struggle with. I could talk about being a recovering alcoholic and no one would think anything of it, but as the author said, sex/porn addiction is a big no-no. I wish the church would WAKE UP.

  3. On the one hand I am very pleased that the church is taking a lead on this issue after so many years where it isn’t even discussed or sidestepped. For the first time in my life I got the help I needed to deal with this problem because our church has taken a lead, not only in talking about it but offering help to people who needed it.

On the other hand the problem is starting to become more and more talked about in the mainstream media which can only be a good thing. Here you have X3church doing stuff with Ron Jeremy saying “we don’t want kids looking at this stuff”, you have articles like a whole page in our leading city newspaper talking about how much a problem porn is becoming in *secular* society and how many people are becoming addicted to it, etc.

  5. It is a real issue in the church. And we need to speak up in love, in grace, and in a spirit of healing.
