I sit inside my room at the Homewood Suites in Louisville, Kentucky. In two hours I have to be out in the lobby. Seminary has begun. This is my first Residency. Three times a year I’ll be attending one of these Residencies, at 3 different locations across the country. Had I started a few months ago, Max Lucado, who was on the board, would have been the featured speaker. Perhaps he’ll be at the next one.
The majority of the course work will be completed online… I love the fact that so many education institutions now offer “distance learning”. It’s perfect for people like me.
I’d write more but I have a lot to prepare and not enough time to do it. Say a prayer or two or five for me, will ya?

Where will you be enrolled in seminary? I’ve looked into this online before, and there are a few that I’ve considered.

excellent, i worked in the Jr High department for a year right out of college. They have some great people there. I see you took a picture of the communion server. Isn’t that just sweet lookin? Looks like it needs a Flex Capasider.

Have fun in Louisville – that’s my hometown. Not a fan of SEC church — they got somewhat of a bad rap in the community — seem too big and too cultish to me.

Let me preface this by saying that I am not a church person at all…
That said, I have talked to a lot of folks that have left that church or who have family and friends that have left that church because they felt that it was just TOO big to do any serious ministry. I mean, how can you touch someone on the personal level with a stadium and and jumbo trons?
There is also some concern about whether building this mega facility is the best use of the money that they get. I am not saying that they need to have their services in a shack, but multi million dollar AV systems might use money that could be best spent somewhere else.
I have a very close friend who works for the City in downtown Louisville on infrastructure type projects. He has told me that SEC is always trying to bully their way through permits and zoning and they are not afraid to use church members who are very well placed in the community to get what they want. His colleague’s wife joined and one of the first things that they wanted her to do was to sign over life insurance policies and estates to the church. She brought this paperwork home to her husband and he flatly refused to do so. They ended up divorced not long after.
I know that all of this is purely hearsay. Anyone reading can choose to believe it or they can tell me I am full of crap. I recognize that as I write this and I will accept it without taking offense.
